PDA Checkin Device
General
We know of a number of different PDA devices on which the Ticketing Checkin Interface is installed. The most commonly used device is the Sunmi L2S Pro. Below we explain how to start the TCI PDA app, how to log in yourself and we go through the settings to be able to start the ticket validation.
SIM settings tip: All devices are equipped with a 5G SIM card via KPN or Odido, which provides stable internet access at most locations in Europe. If a large number of participants is expected (read: 10,000 visitors or more), it might be wise to register the SIM card on the 2G or 3G network of these providers via the device settings. This gives the greatest chance of a stable internet connection, since these networks are hardly used anymore. Please be aware, if you want to change the nework of a SIM connection, please contact us via [email protected].
Sunmi L2S Pro
In this guide we will focus mainly on the Sunmi L2S Pro. This is our most used PDA with also the most functions. All other devices work in the same way. Below is an image of the Sunmi L2S Pro.
Turning the device on/off
To turn the device on, press and hold the on/off button on the right side, above the orange scan button. The on/off button is the top button you see. You turn the device off in the same way. Hold the on/off button until you see 3 or 4 options appear on the screen. To turn the device off, choose "Power off".
Launching the TCI PDA app
Once the device has booted up, we can open the TCI PDA app. To launch the TCI PDA app, navigate to the "TCI PDA" app. You can recognize this app by the purple Novotix logo. Please note that there is another app installed on the device, the "CL EMS" app. This is our cashless payments app. This app has the same logo but a completely different functionality, but we will discuss this app in another manual. See the illustration below for the indicated app icons.
Open the app by pressing the TCI PDA icon. Once the app is started, the app will begin on the authentication screen.
Login card: You have received a smart login card from Novotix with the processed data indicating which parts of the app you have access to and which events may be loaded.
Scanning the smart card
To log in to the TCI PDA app, you need to hold the NFC tag of the smart card on the back of the device. You can recognize what you need to scan and when by the NFC icon and the QR code icon. If the authentication is successful, a second verification screen will be displayed asking you to scan the QR code on the back of the smart card. See the illustrated images below.
Once you are fully logged in, you will see a settings screen where you can select and confirm the event in question. If multiple events have been assigned to your smart card, a dropdown menu will appear from which you can make a selection. If only one event has been assigned to the smart card, you can press "Proceed" directly. See below for a representation of the settings screen.
Once you have followed the above steps, you can immediately start validating the tickets for your event.
Validation proces
To validate a ticket, point the barcode scanner at the top of the device at the QR code of the ticket and press one of the orange buttons on the left and right side of the device. Then an action will be shown, in the form of the traffic light principle (green, yellow and red), on the screen. The validation process for checking tickets is simple. The guideline is: green = access, yellow = warning/access and red = no access. For more information about the different statuses, we have shown the most common statuses schematically below.
Status | Color | Reason | Advice |
VALID | Green | The ticket is valid. | The visitor has access |
WARNING | Yellow | The ticket is valid, but not in the setted time frame. | If desired, you may grant the visitor access. Please accept the showed validation warning. |
NOT VALID | Red | The ticket has already been validated on an earlier moment. | Refuse the visitor access to the event, as the ticket is already scanned earlier. |
NOT VALID | Red | The ticket has been swapped via TicketSwap and therefore is the original ticket blocked. | Refuse the visitor access to the event, as the ticket is blocked because a new ticket is provided to the new ticket seller via TicketSwap. |
NOT VALID | Red | The ticket has been refunded. | The ticket purchase has been cancelled and the funds have been refunded to the ticket holder in question. Deny the visitor in question access to the event. |
NOT VALID | Red | The ticket has been blocked. | The entry ticket in question has been blocked due to violation of the regulations or for another reason. Deny the visitor in question access to the event. |
NOT VALID | Red | The barcode is not found. | The barcode is not found for this specified event. Deny the visitor in question access to the event. |
All scan actions are recorded in the log, which you can find under the colored status bar.
Conclusion
The Ticketing Check-in Interface (TCI) manual provides comprehensive guidance for operating the Sunmi L2S Pro PDA device to validate tickets at events. It explains the essential steps for device setup, app login using smart cards, and the validation process using the traffic light principle. The guide highlights troubleshooting tips for maintaining a stable internet connection and offers clear instructions for interpreting validation statuses. By following this manual, event staff can ensure smooth and efficient ticket validation, enhancing the overall event experience for attendees.
